Closet Clean-up

Posted On January 18, 2020

At the beginning of each year

we all take a mental note of how much we consume and possess.  This is often the time of year when we clean out the excess, declutter if you will.  When on a journey to find A Style That is You cleaning out the closet can be a good first step.  Follow these 4 steps of Closet Cleanup and gain a clearer picture of A Style That is You.

Hang clothes well

Make sure the clothes fall straight down on the hanger without creasing.  This will keep the wrinkles down and help the item lay right when you are wearing it.  When an item has alot of stretch consider folding it over the hanger instead of hanging it from the shoulders.Hanging clothes well stops them from stretching out.

Look for overused or worn out

Now that you have ensured that your clothes are hung appropriately you are able to see what shape your clothes are in.  Find those items that are worn out, stretched out or faded.  Do not keep these clothes around, donate them if you can but do not wear them.  They will not give you that put-together look you are going for.

Make a “need/want” list

Did you find things that you LOVE wearing that are all worn out? Start a list.  Keep a list of things you need (or want) in your wardrobe that maintains A Style That is You.  Then you can shop with intention.

Categorize by type and then RAINBOW order each category

For the last step put like with like.  In other words put all the long sleeve button ups together, put all the skirts together, put all your pants together, so on and so forth until you have made categories based on type.  NOW, RAINBOW order each category.  What do I mean by this?  Put your clothes in color order based on the rainbow (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple-followed by white, gray, black, brown), this way you always know where that red shirt goes.

Now step back and observe.  You can now see what you have, a pattern of style you buy, what you like and even what you need.  This will either show you what style you like or maybe the style that you are buying but isn’t really “you”.  Take notes, these observations all lead you closer to finding A Style That is You.

So go ahead clean out your closet, who knows what you style you will discover.
